Important Millage Renewal for Grand Isle Port on April 9th
On April 9, 2016, you will be asked to vote on a Tax Renewal of 5 mills for the Grand Isle Port Commission. We are asking for your help in passing this Renewal. The purpose of the Millage Renewal is to raise funds for acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, or operating structures, facilities, and services (including economic development) for the Port of Grand Isle. In the past 10 years the Grand Isle Port Commission has made major strides toward attaining these objectives. The enclosed tri-fold lists some of our more resent accomplishments including:
- With the help of the Town of Grand Isle we procured funding for the purchase of the Wayne Estay dock for our commercial fisherman
- Procured over $1,000,000 for repairs and upgrading the commercial dock
- Procured funds for a public, handicapped accessible lighted fishing pier
- Installed navigational piling clusters in Caminada Pass
- Dredging of Bayou Rigaud and Barataria Pass
- Donation and co-ordination of Public Kayak Launch
- Administering Louisiana’s first public off-bottom oyster farm
- Assisted the National Guard and other agencies during the BP oil spill
- Supplied support to local, State, and numerous non-profit organizations which assisted the community efforts
- Provided numerous buoys and navigational aids to ensure safety and promote commerce
- The Port Commission is continually seeking funding, permits and project management towards dredging
- FEMA has approved $1,400,000. We are in the process of procuring matching funds of $360,000 to continue repairs to the Commercial Fishing Dock along Bayou Rigaud
- Helped promote tourism and commerce for the Island
Your Grand Isle Port Commission Team has worked very hard to accomplish these projects. We are committed to continue providing hard work, energy and dedication towards future projects that will improve and enhance the community of Grand Isle.
We need your help & support. Please vote yes for this tax Renewal.
